Women's History: How Young Women Shook Up Erie GE in the '70s (Al Hart/UE from 2/27/2015) "In the 1970s, salaried women workers at Erie GE fought important battles for workplace equality, including two strikes in 1974 and ’75 in which they demanded equal pay for equal work. The participants in these struggles were predominantly young women, and they were influenced by the ideas of the feminist movement as well as by UE’s long-established principles of equality and rank-and-file unionism."

WNY near miss in 2020 Experts say what happened in East Palestine almost happened in East Aurora NY in 2020.  "What we didn't know was the number of tank cars or their contents, information never provided by the Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad Company, a local partner for Norfolk Southern, to police...'The freight company was literally saying will not tell you what is on this train even after it derailed,; said David Masur, Executive Director of PennEnvironment who's been researching the risk of these trains for years."

WNY Peace Center volunteers monitoring trains coming through Buffalo during a 24-hour period. The "trainspotters" have been involved in this effort for several years, usually at the Amtrak Station in Depew NY. Volunteers take three-hour shifts.

TRAINSPOTTING

PHOTO+++ wny trainspotters on a 3-hour shift monitoring freight cars going through +++ in a 24-hour period, in an attempt to determine what hazardous materials are being carried. The group has been doing this for several years.
