Mar 26 - WNY Women's March 2023 beginning at 1:00 PM at Niagara Square (downtown Buffalo NY). "After marching to the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library - Central Library, we'll have speakers and performers share in the library's Ring of Knowledge while themed activities are available for children in the kid's area."

Women's History: How Young Women Shook Up Erie GE in the '70s (Al Hart/UE from 2/27/2015) "In the 1970s, salaried women workers at Erie GE fought important battles for workplace equality, including two strikes in 1974 and ’75 in which they demanded equal pay for equal work. The participants in these struggles were predominantly young women, and they were influenced by the ideas of the feminist movement as well as by UE’s long-established principles of equality and rank-and-file unionism."

WNY History Podcast: Notable Suffragists and Women of Chautauqua Co. (WRFA, from 2020) " focusing on prominent women in Chautauqua County's History, as well as the county's role in the Women's Suffrage movement."

In pre-Roe hearings, Pa. women described their anguished, resolved search for an abortion (Bucks Co. Courier Times) "The year before Roe v. Wade, Pa. women publicly shared their accounts of trying to access safe, legal abortions — and what happened when they couldn't."

The Crucible The 1953 play about the Salem witch trials that Arthur Miller wrote as an allegory for McCarthyism will be presented at Fredonia Opera House  March 11 from (National Theatre Live). and Mercyhurst University   March 23-26 at Taylor Little Theatre.

Mar 15 & 16 - Living Voices: The New American Presented by Robert H Jackson Center, Jamestown NY at Cappa Theatre.  "live, interactive performance will offer the audience a view into the journey in steerage from Ireland to Ellis Island to the sweatshops of New York City, through the experiences of one young Irish immigrant forced to seek a new American life on her own."

Mary Zuck, lifelong peace and justice supporter and really good person, passed away in December 2020. There will be a Celebration of Life for Mary on March 17 at 6:30pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Erie, 7180 Perry Highway, Erie PA.  An obituary will be published in the paper on March 5. WNY near miss in 2020 Experts say what happened in East Palestine almost happened in East Aurora NY in 2020.  "What we didn't know was the number of tank cars or their contents, information never provided by the Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad Company, a local partner for Norfolk Southern, to police...'The freight company was literally saying will not tell you what is on this train even after it derailed,; said David Masur, Executive Director of PennEnvironment who's been researching the risk of these trains for years."

Historic labor ruling slams 'egregious and widespread misconduct' by Starbucks (Common Dreams) 'a federal administrative law judge found the coffee giant "committed hundreds of unfair labor practices" at stores in and near Buffalo, New York, the origin of a national unionization wave.. Rosas also ordered "a meeting or meetings scheduled to ensure the widest possible attendance," during which a notice to the employees and an explanation of rights will be read by CEO Howard Schultz, senior vice president of U.S. operations Denise Nelson, or an NLRB agent. A video of the reading must be distributed to workers electronically or by mail.'

Railroad Workers United  "Railroad Workers United is a member operated organization made up of all workers, union and nonunion, who work in the rail industry."

Rail Workers Blame Fiery Train Crash in Ohio on Wall Street Profit-Seeking (Common Dreams) "Do not let this thing be normalized," said one railroad worker. "It's time to take back our rail system from greedy profiteers who externalize risks and reap profits at our expense."
