Racial justice scholar: Erie's inclusion push largely about 'common human decency' (Kevin Flowers Erie Times 6/10/2021) Feature on Camille Busette,  senior fellow  Brookings Institution, , and the director of its Race, Prosperity and Inclusion initiative. Mayor Shember announced she will lead a year-long initiative in the city which aims to identify and correct policies that perpetuate racial injustice and inequity in Erie.
NY Cannabis Law Is National Blueprint For Pot Expungement (Law360 6/18/2021) "Key to its objectives, the law establishes an automatic process to expunge hundreds of thousands of cannabis-related convictions, the vast majority of them of people of color, for both past and current offenses."

Podcaster John Kane (Cattaraugus Seneca Nation) recently featured an episode called The Legacy of Residential Schools  Guest Keith Burich is a WNY historian and author of  The Thomas Indian School and the Irredeemable Children of New York, about the residential school near Irving NY. Buffalo NBC affiliate WGRZ did a report in 2016 called  The Thomas Indian School: A Forgotten Tragedy.  2009 documentary  Unseen Tears, produced by Native American Community Services lets survivors of Thomas Indian School and Mohawk Institute tell their stories. It also highlights the efforts to heal the wounds and break the cycle of intergenerational trauma stemming from those experiences.

Erie's Juneteenth Celebration was successful and next year's event is already booked and being planned. 
To commemorate Juneteenth, Erie Arts & Culture teamed up with Erie's Black Wall Street to present a list of black-owned businesses in our community.
Erie Arts & Culture has also published an updated  directory of small businesses owned by former refugees in Erie.
